Our Roots run deep
Swedberg Nursery was founded in Battle Lake, by Jake Swedberg in 1915 and was located two blocks off main street. Jake also rented a piece of property across from the current location for growing. The nursery became a landmark in Battle Lake and was known for its hardy nursery stock that would grow “almost any place”.
Jake’s roots started in 1906 when he joined Rose Hill Nursery in St. Paul. He loved the nursery business and was very successful which was shown by the honor he received at the Minnesota Nurseryman annual convention in Minneapolis on December 4, 1972. He was honored for being the oldest living nurseryman in the State of Minnesota.
Jake’s nephew Robert Swedberg and his wife Eunice later bought the Swedberg Nursery in 1965. Robert was beloved by many of his customers as he was always up for a cup of coffee and a long chat that would end up going far beyond landscaping needs. Robert and Eunice grew the business and moved it to the current location we all know today.
Eunice Swedberg was an integral part of the Swedberg Nursery from the beginning when she and Robert bought the business until her passing in 2019. Eunice loved color and her home was known for the purple wave petunias she always had blooming! We miss our beloved grandmother and are so thankful for the legacy she started at Swedberg Nursery.
Continuing the legacy today
Timothy Swedberg
Tim joined his parents at the Nursery in 1975. He has grown the nursery into what it is today. Tim loves his career and often quizzes his family on the latin names of trees and shrubs. To which his kids often roll their eyes and say “I don’t know Dad”. He is always willing to give his kids the right answer. His knowledge of plant material is unmatched and his dedication and business sense has made the Nursery the success it is today. We are so thankful for his years of unwavering service.
Andrew Swedberg
Andrew joined the nursery in 2003 and alongside his father has continued the legacy of quality service and growth. Andrew leads the landscaping team and is passionate about high quality work at a fair price. He works tirelessly to ensure his customer’s landscaping goals are met. He is vital to the overall operation of the Swedberg Nursery.
